Signs Your Driveway Needs Attention

Does Your Driveway Look Like This?

Gravel and dirt driveways wear in predictable ways. Recognizing the pattern early usually means the fix is simpler — and less expensive.

Washboarding — Corrugated ripple pattern across the surface. Caused by repeated traffic on loose, uncompacted material. Worsens with speed.
Rutting — Parallel channels forming in tire tracks. Indicates soft or thin surface material or chronic drainage issues underneath.
Surface softening — Driveway feels spongy or gives underfoot/under tire. Often a drainage problem holding moisture in the base.
Material migration — Gravel ends up in the yard, shoulders, or ditch. Grade loss is usually the cause — water carries material off the surface.
Drainage-related erosion — Water cuts channels through the surface or pools at low spots. Left alone, this compounds with every rain event.

How Revitalization Works

We Restore What’s There Before Adding Anything New

Most gravel driveways don’t need new material — they need their existing material reconditioned, regraded, and compacted. Driveway revitalization is the process of doing exactly that, in the right sequence, based on site conditions.

1

Free On-Site Evaluation

We walk the driveway with you — assessing length, slope, crown, material condition, drainage behavior, and areas of recurring wear. Takes about 15 minutes. No charge.

2

Surface Reconditioning

Using a skid-steer-mounted power rake, we break up compacted or displaced surface material and redistribute it evenly — restoring a workable base before regrading.

3

Regrading & Crown Restoration

We re-establish proper slope and crown so the surface sheds water rather than holding it. This is the step that determines how well the driveway will drain and how long it will hold.

4

Vibratory Roller Compaction

Every job ends with compaction. The vibratory roller locks the regraded surface in place — reducing material movement and extending time between service intervals. Most contractors skip this. We don’t.

Is This Right for Your Driveway?

When Revitalization Is the Right Call

Revitalization works best when the driveway structure is still basically sound but the surface has accumulated wear — material has shifted, drainage has been compromised, or compaction has degraded over time.

It’s typically not the right fit when base failure is the underlying problem, or when material depth is critically low. We’ll tell you which situation you’re in during the evaluation.

Honest assessment first. If revitalization isn’t the right solution for your driveway, we’ll say so — and explain what would actually help.

Good fit for revitalization:

Surface is worn but the driveway is structurally intact
Existing material has shifted or lost compaction
Drainage is poor but the grade can be corrected
Washboarding, rutting, or surface softening are the main complaints
Proactive maintenance is the goal, not emergency repair

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Adding gravel on top of a poorly graded or uncompacted driveway just gives the existing problems more material to work with. Revitalization fixes the grade and surface condition first. In many cases, that’s all that’s needed — and it’s significantly less expensive than hauling new material.
Most residential driveways take 2–4 hours from arrival to cleanup. Longer driveways (200+ feet) or those with significant drainage correction may take longer. We’ll give you a realistic timeframe during the free assessment.
Most revitalization jobs run $600–$2,800 depending on driveway length, surface condition, and drainage complexity. We quote on-site after a free assessment — no per-foot formulas. Call 720-303-1434 to schedule.
Not necessarily. We do the assessment with you present, but the work itself can often proceed without you home — as long as we’ve walked the driveway together and agreed on the scope beforehand.
Yes — foothills and mountain-adjacent properties are a significant part of our work. Scheduling may be weather- and season-dependent at higher elevations. Pre-booking is common for properties above 6,000 feet.
Most driveways benefit from surface attention every 1–3 years depending on traffic load, weather exposure, and whether compaction was done properly at the last service. We offer seasonal maintenance programs for properties that prefer scheduled care over reactive repairs.
